1.Overview
Global health refers to population health which goes beyond national boundaries. It aims to study health problems which have an impact on political and economic issues in the global context, which can be defined as “a discipline for health research and practice that places a priority on improving health and achieving equity in health for people worldwide.” In other words, global health aims to improve health worldwide, to reduce the health disparity and to help people to cope with threats to global health.

    Based on the cross-disciplinary advantages and frequent international and inter-college theoretical teaching and practices, this discipline strives to enable students to master professional knowledge about health disparity, significant infectious diseases, health risk assessment and prediction, and to arouse their awareness of their potential in solving global health problems. Students are expected to master multilateral communication and collaboration skills through theoretic learning and practice of related skills, so as to qualify themselves to be future professional talents and social elite in solving complicated global health problems. 

     

2.Goals
This discipline aims to equip students with broad international perspective and profound traditional culture, so as to make them be familiarized with the basic theories, knowledge and skills of global health. Competencies in practice, research, coordination and communication are required. Students should be qualified and competent for working on global health theoretical research, policy evaluation, resources integration, disease prevention and controlling, etc.

     

3.Features and Requirements

3.1 Features
Global health means to study health problems in the global context. Therefore, students are required to master not only the medical knowledge but also those related to international relations and international law. Global health is a discipline involved with multi-discipline knowledge and skills such as medicine, science of law, diplomacy, sociology and psychology and so on.

3.2 Requirements
Knowledge structure: the global health curricula include "developing foundation, extending and stretching, professional competence upgrading, humanistic literacy promoting, international vision in studying and exploring" and other knowledge modules; students should have basic knowledge in medicine   statistics analysis and application , international relations and international law, theory and practice of global health; master systematically the way of how to evaluate the effect  that culture, economy, environment and life style have on human health.
Competency structure: having the ability to evaluate global health and disease risks, demonstrating skills in field investigation and decision making, international communication and cooperation, self-learning and team working.

Duration requirement:4 years of full-time study
Credit requirement:150 credits
